Welcome

Welcome to the

Parish Church of Saint Buriana

Ex Royal Peculiar and Cathedral of the West
Home of  the Heaviest Peal of Six Bells in the World

St Buryan's 15th century Parish church is the largest of three churches in the Lands End Benefice, the most South Westerly cluster of churches in the country, and part of the Diocese of Truro, in the County of Cornwall.

This sacred space is important to us, not because of its history, although that is very interesting. Not because of its architecture, although it is a beautiful building. Not because of its glorious internal structures although the Rood screen and kneelers are masterpieces. But because it is an important place of prayer and sanctuary.

Over the years, many thousands of people have gathered here, to celebrate, to grieve and to make their prayers. In trouble and in joy this space has heard their prayers. Here they have met with God through prayer, through sacrament and through the fellowship and love found in the community.

Our prayer is that this continues to be the most important part of St Buryan; a holy, sacred space where God is present. A place where you and I can meet with God.

So come, visit this remarkable place, admire our church, join in our worship and add your prayers to the myriad of saints prayers, or just sit and absorb the unique atmosphere created by over one and a half thousand years of prayer and worship.

“We believe in an inclusive Church... a church which does not discriminate on any level, including: economic power, gender, mental health, mental ability, physical ability, race or sexuality. We believe in a Church which welcomes, accepts and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasphow wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.” *Inclusive Church
