Candle-lit Taize Services in St Buryan church
Taizé is a simple format with short readings, prayers and chants (all taught to us by the wonderful Taizettes!) and lasts about half an hour.
Taizé is an ecumenical type of worship, meaning it reaches people worldwide. It originated in the small village of Taizé, which lies in the southern part of Burgundy, France, by a monk named Roger Louis Schutz-Marsauche. Since its founding, the practice has spread worldwide. It is non-denominational and seeks to unite all forms of Christianity. Its peaceful, contemplative nature has drawn millions from all over the world to practice this kind of worship.
“To experience simple and peaceful worship in a busy world. The Taizé Worship includes music, readings from the bible and other sources. The music (often known as Taizé chants) repeats, often following key biblical texts, allowing those present to immerse themselves in the simple but profound harmonies which is a form of sung prayer.”
Do come along and bring your family, friends and neighbours. If you haven’t been before, come and try something a little different in church.
