A humble mind, a meek and generous heart, good without show and lovely without art. Glad to oblige and fearful to offend, a loving daughter and a faithful friend, she joins with angels in the heavenly song, glory to God and peace to men belong, then if pure innocence doth claim a tear, stop gentle passenger and shed it here.

Ever kind and benevolent to perform in need that claimed her assistance, age and infirmity combined to press, this virtuous woman here took up her rest.  Weep not, she’s gone where tears do cease, her upright life did end in peace. This tomb was erected under the superintendence of her affectionate nephew, JOHN HUTCHENS of Lisbon.

  205. FRANCIS HUTCHENS who died Feb 18th 1813 aged 81 years, 45 of which he worked an artificer in H M Dockyard at Plymouth. This parish was his native home. He was – but words are wanting to express what he was. Think what an upright man ought to be, that was he. The Lord gave and the Lord taketh away.  Blessed be the name of the Lord.
  206. FRANCIS HUTCHENS, son of JOHN and MARGARET HUTCHENS, once of this parish. Was born on the 17th September 1782 and died on the 15th July 1812 and was buried on this spot. READER: Behold the plainly written page of human life, and learn a moral lesson from the life and death of him who sleeps beneath thy feet. This was his native village, and here in the playfull days of infancy his little feet have pressed the greensward on which thou standest.  Here he grew in activity and strength.  Foremost of the companions of his youth, his mind and sentiments were cultivated and refined, his heart was kind and affectionate and with those who knew and loved him well he trod hand in hand, through the paths of boyhood and of manhood till in the prime of manhood death laid him low, and those who idolized him in life saw him descend into an early grave. He is gone. Reader, thy day will come and thou must follow.
