Plough Sunday in St Buryan
A huge thank you to Graham Hoskin for bring the stunning plough to St Buryan for our church service, it was a really fitting and lovely addition to this traditional service at the start of the year. There were plants and seeds, gardening tools and spring flowers, a beautiful image. Thank you to our farmers Bernard and Gillian who read and to Ian for the intercessions. Also thanks to Wendy for stepping in as sacristan when Rene had to stay at home to care for her brother who was taken ill.

Messy Church
in St Buryan hall was a marvellous afternoon, the hall was filled with happy people making sweets, testing soil (harder than it looked!) making trees of blessings and thank yous, embossing cards, colouring and taking part in a Scavenger hunt too. A busy fruitful session with much loved parachute games and prayers. Finishing with a tea of Jacket Potatoes with cheese and beans, clean plates showed how successful that was! Thank you for your time, energy and expertise Wendy, Bobbie, Bronwyn, Gina, Susan, Paddy, Tegan, Keri and Jean. Brilliant work!

Bishop Chris’ Lecture
on the Celtic Way in St Levan was an interesting and informative session showing some of the experiences of the Celtic Way walked last year. Thank you to Bobbie, Helen, Penny and Bridget for organising the refreshments, and to the Telegraph Museum for allowing us to use their wonderful space.

Funeral Thank You
Thank you to Penny and Godfrey for their work in preparing the church and for playing at the funeral of Avril Butler in St Levan on Monday. The work of the vergers and organists at funeral services is a foundational part of the welcome we show to those who are grieving, thank you so much for making this final service seemly, fitting and dignified.

If you would like to make a formal confession before the beginning of Lent, please speak to one of the clergy team who would be happy to help.

Lottery Support for St Buryan Church
St Buryan parish church is delighted to announce it has been awarded initial support* by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for National Lottery funding towards the cost of urgent tower repairs.

Thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, a development grant of £16,000 has been awarded to enable the church to develop detailed plans for the work needed for the project. The parish church will need to add a further £3,000 approximately to complete this first phase of work.

The parish church will then apply for a full grant from HLF of £170,000, a major step towards the approximately £220,000 needed for the full works.

Rev’d Canon Vanda Perrett said: “This is really good news for us, and we are thankful that the National Lottery has supported us in this early stage. We shall have to work hard and continue to raise funds for the tower works, while we work through the “round two” application for 2018. The initial support from the Heritage Lottery Fund is a strong endorsement of the work we need to do to make St Buryan Church Tower safe and sustainable for future generations, and we take heart from their support and encouragement.”
